Acetate Buffers
Description

This is a buffer solution in which the pH is maintained by an acetic acid–acetate equilibrium. Acetate buffers are used in biochemical studies of enzymes and other chemical components of cells to prevent pH changes that might change the biochemical activity of these compounds.

Sodium acetate is a widely used reagent in molecular biology applications. It is used as a buffer in conjunction with acetic acid, in the buffering range of pH 3.6 – 5.6.
